Two service members were killed and a third seriously injured Tuesday morning in a vehicle accident near Santa Teresa, N.M., Joint Task Force Southern Border said in a news release.

The service members were deployed to the area in support of the task force.

The injured person was taken to a local medical facility and remains in serious condition, the news release states.

The names of service members who died will not be released until next of kin are notified, the task force said.

Santa Teresa is home to the Santa Teresa Port of Entry with Mexico. It is about 13 miles northwest of El Paso, Texas.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The task force assumed control of the southern border mission on March 14 as part of the Trump administration’s emphasis on controlling the flow of people and materiel over the Mexican border.
