WASHINGTON — Vice Adm. Shoshana Chatfield, the U.S. military representative to the NATO Military Committee, has been fired, according to two Navy officials.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, did not provide reasons for Chatfield’s firing.

Chatfield served as the U.S. representative to the NATO Military Committee, the alliance’s group of top uniformed officials. The committee provides advice to NATO’s top military leaders and helps guide long-term strategy.

NATO allies have been informed Chatfield was removed from her job, according to a Reuters report.

Chatfield’s firing follows Thursday’s removal of Air Force Gen. Timothy Haugh, who led the National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command. Several other top military officers have been removed from their posts since President Donald Trump took office in January, including Air Force Gen. Charles “CQ” Brown, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Lisa Franchetti, the chief of naval operations, and the commandant of the Coast Guard, Adm. Linda Fagan.

Chatfield, who received her commission in 1988, was the first woman to lead the Naval War College, a position she held from August 2019 to June 2023.

Some of Chatfield’s personal awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal and the Bronze Star Medal, according to her service record.
