AUSTIN, Texas – An investigation is underway after a Fort Johnson soldier and his spouse were found dead Monday in their home at the Louisiana Army base, the service said.

The deaths of Cpl. Perrin Ross, 24, and his spouse, Estephany Ross, 25, were described as an “isolated incident,” but no cause of death was provided.

“This is a tragic incident for the entire Fort Johnson community,” Brig. Gen. Jason Curl, commander of the Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Johnson, said in a statement released Thursday. “Our prayers are with their families, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”

There is no ongoing threat to the community, according to Fort Johnson. Further questions were referred to the Army Criminal Investigation Division, which did not immediately respond to comment.

Perrin Ross was an infantryman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment. He arrived at Fort Johnson in April 2023, according to the base.

While Army CID primarily investigates felony-level crimes, it is also tasked with investigating all deaths of service members.

Fort Johnson is in northwest Louisiana near the town of Leesville and has a base population of about 32,350 and an average transient daily population of about 5,000 troops, according to the base. Aside from its training mission, Fort Johnson also is home to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division.
