Two teenagers were arrested in connection with shootings outside the entrance to Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas in August, the San Antonio Police Department announced last week.

The shootings occurred Aug. 17, when suspects opened fire twice on an entrance to the base, exchanging gunfire with U.S. Air Force security guards. No military personnel were injured.

Joseph Jimenez, 19, and Ricardo Samaniego, 18, were arrested and charged with deadly conduct with a firearm, according to the SAPD. More state and federal charges could be pending. The arrests came after an investigation involving the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI and the ATF.

According to investigators, the suspects used a stolen vehicle to shoot at homes near JBSA-Lackland.

Jimenez was connected to the shootout at Lackland after a shooting that took place later day, according to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar. At about 10 p.m. on Aug. 17, deputies were called to the scene of an accidental shooting. Several suspects were playing with a gun when it went off, hitting Samaniego. A shell casing from that shooting was linked to a shell casing from the JBSA shooting.

Search warrants were executed on Aug. 28.

Lackland is home to more than 24,000 active duty members and 10,000 Department of Defense civilians, according to the base website. It includes the 37th Training Wing; 149th Fighter Wing; 59th Medical Wing; the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency; 24th Air Force Wing, 67th Network Warfare Wing; the Cryptologic Systems Group; the National Security Agency; and 70 associated units.
