A former federal employee who shared child pornography on public Wi-Fi at the Veterans Affairs hospital in western Massachusetts where he worked pleaded guilty in federal court this week.
Kevin A. Divoll, 51, entered the plea Monday on charges of distribution and possession of child pornography, according to a statement that day from the Massachusetts U.S. Attorney’s Office. He faces up to 20 years in prison for each of the two charges.
Divoll worked at the VA medical center in Leeds, Mass. He was arrested Aug. 4, 2022, after investigators said they caught him distributing child pornography through peer-to-peer communications.
Police searched Divoll’s home and said they found a laptop, an external hard drive and a cellphone containing images of sexual abuse of children, some of whom were toddlers, a federal court statement at the time of his arrest said.
Investigators said they found “hundreds of pictures and video files containing child pornography,” The Recorder, a newspaper in Greenfield, Mass., reported shortly after his arrest.
Divoll’s distribution of the images over public Wi-Fi took place from May through July of 2022, prosecutors said in a statement Monday.
The government’s statements did not include Divoll’s role at the VA. A LinkedIn account with his name and matching his description said that Divoll was a licensed practical nurse with about 25 years of experience.
He is scheduled for sentencing on July 19.
