Army Command Sgt. Maj. Robert V. Abernethy was named the next senior enlisted leader of U.S. European Command, the military announced Monday.
Abernethy currently serves as command sergeant major at U.S. Army Europe and Africa headquarters in Wiesbaden, Germany.
He will replace Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Phillip L. Easton at EUCOM’s Patch Barracks headquarters in Stuttgart, said the office of the senior enlisted adviser to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Easton has served in his position at EUCOM since August 2019. A date for the change in responsibility hasn’t yet been announced.
AS EUCOM’s senior enlisted leader, Abernethy will be responsible for advising the commander on issues affecting the force, such as professional development and quality of life in the enlisted ranks.
The position also involves mentorship of senior enlisted leaders in the NATO alliance.
