TOKYO — A Yokosuka sailor has been fined 200,000 yen (about $2,000) by a Yokosuka summary court for trying to take indecent pictures of a Japanese student on a public bus.
Petty Officer 3nd Class Tyler Joseph Routon, 22, was arrested May 28 after he placed a cell phone near a 17-year-old girl’s feet and tried to take a picture up her skirt, police said.
A passenger witnessed the incident and notified police. Prior to his arrest, Routon smashed the phone on a metal pole inside the bus and told police that he was only trying to take a picture of the girl’s face.
Routon was released Friday after he was fined, according to a spokeswoman at the Yokohama District Public Prosecutors Office in Yokosuka.
