A service member was found dead recently at the home of the 8th Fighter Wing, 116 miles south of Seoul, South Korea.

Airman Kye Vang, 23, of the 8th Security Forces Squadron at Kunsan Air Base, was discovered on the installation Friday, the wing announced Sunday.

Vang’s death is under investigation, but foul play is not suspected, according to the release.

“The Kunsan family is deeply saddened by this loss, and we will mourn the life of Kye,” Col. Peter Kasarskis, 8th Fighter Wing commander, said in the release. “From all the members of the Wolf Pack, our thoughts are with Kye’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

In January, Vang and 10 other airmen were lauded for volunteering on short notice to remove nearly seven inches of snow from Kunsan’s flight line. Their work kept the wing’s two F-16 Fighting Falcon squadrons flying, the wing said in a Jan. 24 news release.

“We had 11 extremely motivated volunteers armed with shovels, breakfast burritos, and great attitudes,” Lt. Col. Hugh Williams, deputy commander of the 8th Mission Support Group, said in the release. “It was cool to see the coordination … to get jets launched on time.”
