Brinn Hardt is still wearing blue and gold. But no longer is the two-time All-Island pitcher throwing for Guam High.
That’s because the Panthers don’t have a softball team this season, due to “lack of players,” Guam High athletics director Ed Paz told Stripes.
And Hardt is now wearing the dark blue and gold of the George Washington Geckos – something the senior right-hander admitted left her feeling a bit anxious.
“I’m nervous. Playing with an all-new team is kind of scary because I don’t know anyone,” Hardt said in an online interview.
“But I’m also pretty excited because GW has always had pretty good players. I think this season’s going to be pretty competitive.”
Because Guam High couldn’t field a team, Hardt and her family applied for and received permission for her to play for the Geckos. Hardt still attends Guam High and will graduate there.
The Geckos and Hardt lost their season opener Tuesday to defending island champion Academy of Our Lady of Guam. In the losing cause, Hardt struck out 10 Cougars and hit two doubles at the plate.
