MANGILAO, Guam – Quarterback Braden Flinn rushed 10 yards for Guam High’s lone touchdown in a losing cause, as the Panthers fell 30-6 Friday to surprising Southern in Guam football’s third-place game.
With the defeat, the Panthers finished 4-5 overall this season, with two straight defeats following a three-game winning streak that got Guam High into the playoffs. The Panthers were island runners-up the last two seasons.
Flinn rushed six times for 47 yards and was 6-for-21 for 98 yards passing with one interception. Noah Harris had 79 yards on 14 rushing attempts for the Panthers.
Southern (6-3) had its first winning season and first playoff appearance since the league went to an eight-team format. It’s the first time the Dolphins have beaten the Panthers twice in the same season.
The league championship will be decided Saturday when eight-time defending champion Father Duenas Memorial, owner of a Pacific-record 80-game winning streak, plays George Washington (7-1), whose only loss this season was to the Friars.
