MANGILAO, Guam – Brothers Jaron and Javin Meno compiled 258 yards on 21 carries to boost Father Duenas Memorial to its Pacific-record 80th straight win, downing Guam High 28-12 in Friday league semifinal at George Washington High School field.
The Panthers fell to 4-4 overall after having their three-game winning streak snapped. The Friars improved to 8-0 and will try to extend their league record to nine straight championships next Saturday.
The game was called with 8:22 left following the Friars’ last touchdown, a Jaron Meno 29-yard run, when the Panthers coaching staff engaged in debate with game officials.
Head referee John Palomo called the contest due to what he termed the Guam High coaches being “hostile,” according to Guam Sports Network.
Noah Harris accounted for all of the Panthers’ points, returning a fumble 50 yards for a second-quarter touchdown. In the third period, he took a double reverse 9 yards to cut the Friars’ lead to 16-12.
The Panthers will face Southern for third place next Friday. Father Duenas will take on George Washington in the championship game; the Geckos beat the Dolphins 18-6 in Saturday’s semifinal.
Harris was among the four finalists for league Most Valuable Player, which went to George Washington junior Rayn Rios.
Harris was named first-team All-Island punt returner and second-team running back. Other Panthers named first-team were senior center Aljeandro Reyes and senior safety Judah Alcantara.
Named second-team All-Island from the Panthers were senior guard-defensive tackle Isaiah Hayashi, sophomore tackle Nikko Penn, junior tackle Adan Reyes and junior punter-cornerback Braden Flinn.
