Old rivals Heidelberg and Ramstein moved into this Saturday’s DODDS-Europe Division I football championship game with convincing semifinal victories on Saturday.

Heidelberg turned back Kaiserslautern 41-14 and Ramstein downed Vilseck 33-24 to set up the showdown at Baumholder as part of the Super VIII football championships.

Heidelberg 41, Kaiserslautern 14: At Heidelberg, Chris Cuthbert rushed for 140 yards and scored on runs of 19 and 80 yards, and Kyle Ulses carried 19 times for 100 yards and two TDs as the Lions avenged an earlier 24-22 home loss to the Red Raiders (4-3).

Quarterback Jimmy Montfleury set up the first Ulses TD, a 1-yard plunge, with completions of 26 yards to Chris Frazier and 39 yards to Eugene Jones. Montfleury, who completed TD passes of 2 and 72 yards to Napolian Myhand, finished 8-of-16 for 182 yards.

The defense for Heidelberg (5-2) was led by Alex Savusa, who had 14 tackles, one of them a sack, and a pass deflection. J.C. Sharer and Chip Dougherty each had a sack.

Frazier picked off a K-town pass and returned it 58 yards.

Russell Bryant ran for one Kaiserslautern touchdown, and James McGinnis caught a 34-yard pass for the other. The Red Raiders’ rushing leader was Kahiri Smith with 74 yards on 12 carries.

Ramstein 33, Vilseck 24: At Ramstein, All-Europe running back Evan Canfield ran for two touchdowns and kicked two field goals as the Royals (5-2) avenged an earlier 21-14 loss at Vilseck (4-2).

Quarterback Thomas Bolton hit Aaron Salcido with an 18-yard pass for another TD.

Vilseck, playing its first season as a Division I school, got three TD passes from quarterback Tyler Hall, including a 97-yard connection to Jamal Grant-Sadler. The other scoring tosses, to Grant-Sadler and Angelo Anderson, were for 30 and 45 yards. Hall completed 7 of 18 passes for 225 yards.

For Ramstein, Canfield and Tim Ortiz each rushed for more than 100 yards, and Bolton was 5-of-7 passing for 48 yards.

Defensively, Ramstein intercepted three passes off Hall, two by Salcido.

Heidelberg beat Ramstein 17-10 at Ramstein during the regular season.
