The ongoing efforts of Air Force football to spotlight and honor its military roots now turn to special operations.
On Tuesday, the Falcons unveiled a special uniform that will honor Air Force Special Operations Command. This is part of the Air Power Legacy Series that famously launched in 2016 with the now-iconic shark-tooth helmets and have since given nods to the Tuskegee Airmen, the Space Force and aircrafts like AC-130s, B-52s, C-17s and F-35s.
This year’s special uniforms will be worn against Navy on Oct. 5 for a game broadcast on CBS.
The front of AFSOC-inspired uniforms will include the official emblem on the helmet, with the front bumper of the helmet including the words, “First There,” taken from the Special Tactics Combat Control motto. The back bumper of the helmet will have the AFSOC’s motto, “Any Place, Any Time, Anywhere.”
A sticker on the back of the helmet will highlight the Air Force Special Tactics logo with a lighting bolt, green feet and dagger.
Red touches on the uniform, including the outline of the numbers and a red swoosh on the jersey and pants, are in recognition of the scarlet berets worn by Special Tactics Combat Controllers.
“I think they’re pretty sweet,” Air Force quarterback John Busha said of the uniforms. “I’ve always been kind of the little nerdy guy when it comes to special ops. I play a bunch of games that involve shooting and stuff. Once I heard about the theme this year, I was definitely looking forward to them. The little details they have on the uniforms, it’s pretty sick.”
