NILE C. KINNICK RED DEVILS

2022-23 season record — 18-2 overall; defending Far East Division I Tournament champion.

Head coach — David Weiland, first season.

Key performers — Kotone Turner, Sr., F; Kamiyah Dabler, So., F; Leona Turner, Jr., G-F.

Outlook — Rebuilding-reloading. Lost plenty from the 2023 Far East champion team, but enough talent returns and it’s spread across the board.

Division II

E.J. KING COBRAS

2022-23 season record — 26-3 overall; Far East D-II Tournament runner-up.

Head coach — McKinzy Best, fourth season.

Key performers — Moa Best, Jr., G; Miu Best, Jr., G; Maliwan Schinker, Sr., F; Mikayla Honvo, Sr., F-C; Pia Legrito, Jr.; Katelyn Mapa, Sr.; Mila Nishimura-Reed, So., F; Joanna Hall, So., F.

Outlook — Reloading-contending. Some height this year in addition to their customary guard set. Should be in the hunt for the D-II title.

MATTHEW C. PERRY SAMURAI

2022-23 season record — 4-10 overall, eighth in Far East D-II.

Head coach — Joshua Henry, first season.

Key performers — Aiana Bulan-Marisse, Jr., F; Sophia Nye, Sr., C; Leilena Washington, Sr.; Arkilis “Kiki” Rodriguez, Jr.; Cambria Villanueva, So.; Layla Spring, So.; Kaiden Bradley, Fr.; Elieza Cuaco, Fr.

Outlook — Rebuilding. Samurai lost their top scorers from last year, but have a core of young players around which to build. A little quickness, not a great deal of height.

YOKOTA PANTHERS

2022-23 season record — 10-15 overall; third in Far East Division II.

Head coach — Byron Wrenn, sixth season.

Key performers — Erica Haas, Jr., G; Hailey Riddels, Sr., G; Beverly Gardner, Jr., SF; Kayla Bogdan, Jr., F; Coco Jones, Fr., G.

Outlook — Rebuilding-reloading. Panthers came on strong toward the end of last season. Core of the team centers around the backcourt, with quickness and experience; not much height, though.

ZAMA TROJANS

2022-23 season record — 6-7 overall; fifth in Far East D-II.

Head coach — Veronica Tipton-Jones, third season.

Key performers — Kierstyn Aumua, Sr., F; Deborah McClendon, Sr., F-G; Isabella Rivera Munoz, Jr., G-F; Lyndsey So., Sr., G; Olivia Parish, Sr. F; Juliet Bitor, Jr., G; Anna Olson, Jr., C; Liliana Fennessey, Sr., G.

Outlook — Reloading. Almost all players return from last year’s varsity. Plenty of backcourt experience and strong inside game led by Aumua and Olson. Could be a contender come Far East.

Note: Robert D. Edgren Eagles will not field a team this season due to lack of interested players.
