Seniors and rising juniors at Defense Department schools in the Pacific may salvage their hopes for a timely college admission despite entrance exam delays due to the coronavirus.
Department of Defense Education Activity-Pacific has scheduled June dates for the ACT and SAT exams through the organizations that administer them, according to an email Monday from spokeswoman Miranda Ferguson. The original test dates in March and May were canceled due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
Not all DODEA-Pacific schools have scheduled the tests, Ferguson said.
The rescheduled tests come with a caveat. “The June testing dates are currently open for students to register; however, they may be canceled at any time should testing not be safely feasible,” Ferguson wrote in an earlier email.
In the Pacific East and Pacific South districts, the SAT Subject Test is scheduled June 6 and the ACT test is scheduled June 13, according to Ferguson.
Pacific East schools that will offer the tests are Yokota High School at Yokota Air Base; Zama American Middle/High School at Camp Zama; Edgren Middle/High School at Misawa Air Base; Kinnick High School at Yokosuka Naval Base; and E.J. King High School at Sasebo Naval Base.
No tests are scheduled at Matthew C. Perry High School at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, according to Ferguson’s email. However, the school “has requested information from ACT and College Board should students express interest in participating in these tests,” she wrote.
In the Pacific South district, the SAT test is scheduled at Kadena High School at Kadena Air Base and Kubasaki High School at Camp Foster. The ACT will be administered at Kadena only, according to Ferguson.
Guam High School in Agana Heights will offer both the SAT and ACT tests.
The ACT registration deadline is May 5. Students may register online. The deadline to register for the SAT is May 8. Interested students may register on the College Board site.
In South Korea, the Pacific West district of DODEA, “no students have currently expressed interest in the June ACT or SAT” exams, Ferguson wrote. However, “Pacific West will also offer the exams to students should they choose to participate.”
