YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — Members of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity hosted a group of South Korean orphans for a holiday meal here Friday.
Maj. Jeff Mobley, chapter member, said that about eight chapter members and 15 American children gathered with 26 girls from the Sun Duk Orphange for the meal and games at the Moyer Community Center.
“It’s a chance to give something back,” Mobley said.
And a chance to “teach the kids to give to the less fortunate,” he said.
Eun Deuk-chyug, Sun Duk superintendent, said the children enjoy interacting with the fraternity members and their families.
The orphanage cares for girls age 3 to 18, but only the younger girls could attend Friday because the older girls were in school.
Marine Master Sgt. Jeffery Martin challenged a group of the visitors to a game of foosball, while other kids played ping-pong and battled on the pool tables.
Mobley said the meal, made by chapter members, featured barbecued turkey, deep-fried turkey, spareribs, ham, potato salad and much more.
“We can provide them our customs and traditions,” during the holiday season, he said of hosting the girls.
