CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — A lot of celebrating is going on at clubs at Marine bases on Okinawa this week.
Eight of the bases’ clubs, serving a wide range of clientele, were named best in the Corps for 2002.
A special awards luncheon is scheduled Monday at WestPac Inn.
“It’s uncommon that one organization — Marine Corps Community Services here on Okinawa — has had this many clubs being named the best,” said James Garringer, deputy director of food and beverage services for community services, during a recent telephone interview.
“We’re the best,” he said. “A lot of hard work went into this; a lot of people are responsible for this.”
The top ratings in the 2002 Marine Corps Food and Hospitality Excellence Award program went to:
• Globe & Anchor Enlisted Club, Camp Foster — best large enlisted club.
• Chesty’s Senior Noncommissioned Officers Club, Camp Foster: best large SNCO club.
• Camp Courtney SNCO Club: best small SNCO club.
• Awase Meadows Restaurant: best small restaurant operation.
• Thirsty’s Enlisted Club, MCAS Futenma: best small enlisted club.
• Camp Kinser Surfside Consolidated Club: best small consolidated club.
• Camp Butler Officers Club: best large officers club.
• The Palms Consolidated Club, Camp Hansen: best large consolidated club.
“There are four categories we are judged by: customer services, financial performance, human resources and operations,” Garringer said. “There was a lot of tough competition.”
