The largest Romano’s Macaroni Grill in the world opened Monday on Camp Foster. One hour after opening, there was at least a 20-minute wait; reservations are completely booked through the week.
Ben Erichsen, chief marketing officer for Marine Corps Community Services on Okinawa, said a survey showed that Italian was the most wished for and underserved kind of food on the island.
“There’s pent up demand for concepts people are used to back in the States,” he said.
The 15,000-square-foot restaurant offers two banquet rooms that can be reserved for sayonara parties or other get-togethers and has a gambling room with slot machines. Take-out orders also available.
Operating hours are:
Sunday-Thursday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.In the coming months the restaurant, next to the West Pac Inn, also will be open for breakfast.
