SEOUL — The government of South Korea said Monday it has not yet committed to making a national park of Yongsan Garrison land after the U.S. military headquarters is scheduled to be closed in 2008.
Some of the land under Yongsan Garrison could be sold to private investors to help pay for relocating U.S. forces to an expanded hub in Pyongtaek, officials said. The Seoul city government previously has said it would like to turn the former military base into the city’s equivalent of New York’s Central Park.
