TOKYO (S&S) — Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos arrived here Wednesday from Honolulu for a 5-day state visit. He was met at planeside by Emperor Hirohito.

Marcos was accompanied by his wife and 11 Filipino officials. they were greeted by a Japanese Self-Defense Forces' honor guard and a 21-gun salute as they stepped from their special jetliner at Tokyo International Airport.

Several hundred spectators, including Japanese schoolchildren waving Japanese and Philippine flags, cheered the Filipino chief executive and his official party.

Marcos' visit here took on added emphasis after his announcement Tuesday in Honolulu that he will serve as host for a 7-nation Vietnam summit conference in Manila next month.

(UPI reported Marcos told newsmen during an in-flight news conference en route from Honolulu that he hoped next month's Vietnam conference would be merely a forerunner of an all-Asia peace meeting.

("We need a common stand for peace." Marcos said.

(Marcos said a ministerial level meeting involving many Asian nations might follow the October conference. Nations which will attend the first Manila meeting are the Republic of Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, the Republic of Korea. Philippines and the United States.

(Marcos said Japan might play a major role in the second conference which it was presumed would be aimed at bringing moral pressure on north Vietnam to begin peace talks.)

Marcos and his wife, Imelda, were met at the airport by Emperor Hirohito and Empress Nagako who then introduced them to Prime Minister and Mrs. Eisaku Sato and other waiting dignitaries. Marcos and the emperor reviewed the honor guard and then were driven to the Imperial Palace.

At the palace, the emperor presented Marcos with the highest award that he is empowered to confer on a chief of state, the Grand Cordon of the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum. Marcos then awarded the emperor the Raja of the Order of the Sikatuna.
