CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Opinions about summer ending and school starting Monday were varied at Kubasaki High School’s orientation Thursday.
“Summer was all right,” said sophomore Candice McDowell, 15, who spent most of the summer preparing for her recent move here from the States.
For freshman Courtney Rodriguez, 14, summer was hot but fun, except when she had to baby-sit her younger sister, she said.
As for starting school, she’s ready to go.
“I want to see my friends,” she said.
Nick Hower’s summer was a bust.
“It was boring. There was nothing to do,” said Hower, 16, a junior.
At least with school starting, there will be something to do during the day, he said.
Though he has a new laptop in preparation for school’s start, he admits he “didn’t even touch a book this summer.”
Not so with senior Faith Barreyro, 17.
She spent a portion of her summer completing homework for an advanced-placement class she’s taking this year.
Other than that, her summer “was great,” she said. “I went to San Diego to visit family and friends.”
Though she’s not quite ready for school to start, “I am ready to graduate,” she said.
