GRAFENWÖHR, Germany — Workers here have almost finished building a $5.3 million facility that will include a 12-pump service station, a shoppette, a dry cleaner, a snack bar and a video rental store.

The building, under construction since last summer, is on track to open in late July or early August, according to Susanne Bartsch, spokeswoman for Efficient Basing Grafenwöhr. It is part of the billion-dollar construction project to accommodate thousands of new soldiers and their families in the area over the next few years.

The 10,700-square-foot facility — next to a new traffic circle on a road leading to Grafenwöhr’s soon-to-open $35 million post exchange and commissary — includes nearly 5,000 square feet of shopping space and will supply diesel fuel from four pumping stations, Bartsch said.

It will also have handicapped parking, a vacuum cleaner and an air compressor for customers, she said.

The structure will replace Grafenwöhr’s existing gas station, near Gate 6, and shoppette, which is across the road from Burger King.
