Sushi lovers in the mood to shake things up can head for California Roll & Sushi in Pyeongtaek, just a five-minute drive from the main gate at Osan Air Base, South Korea.

This eatery specializes in sushi rolls that put an American twist on a Japanese mainstay.

It’s a great place to get a quick bite for lunch, and hard to miss. A huge neon sign displays its name in bold letters. Inside you’ll find a warm setting and a cozy vibe.

There’s plenty of seating for you and your friends at a table for four, or post up at the sushi bar and watch the magic happen.

The staff was very accommodating and friendly during my visit, and an English menu makes ordering a breeze. There is a large variety to choose from.

The menu had what seemed like an endless list of sushi options with colorful names like Superman Burrito and Rainbow.

To start, I ordered the Jalapeno Bomb for 16,000 won, or about $11.50, followed by the Dragon Roll with a Pepsi for 23,000 won.

The jalapeno roll arrived moments after I ordered. Despite the intimidating title, it was sweet and not too spicy.

The Dragon Roll came with shrimp tempura and crab meat on the inside with baked, freshwater eel and avocado on the outside. It was amazing.

California Roll & Sushi is a great experience at a reasonable price. I highly recommend it.
