The average meat-eater may not consider this revived creation from Burger King a true burger, but it’s worth a try.
The Fake Burger reappeared at the restaurant chain in Japan on April 1, and no shame on you if you took it as a joke. But it’s real, and back four years after it was first unveiled here.
The first Fake Burger appeared for a brief time in October 2020 and featured a minced-beef sauce. But this new version loses the meat altogether.
Simply put, this sandwich could probably be dubbed the lazy burger, because it didn’t seem to take much thought to put it together.
It aims to wow your taste buds with a pile of french fries draped with Gouda cheese and smoky barbecue sauce.
On the plus side, though not as eye-pleasing as the real thing, it did not taste half bad.
The combination of the three ingredients, especially the Gouda cheese, worked for me. I quickly gobbled the potato-filled sandwich, with a side of fries, and washed it down with a Japanese melon soda.
You’ll pay 390 yen – about $2.55, including tax – for the sandwich only. The Fake Burger is around for a limited time and not available at all locations in Japan.
If you’re looking to skip meat for a meal, give it a try.
