In your quest for enticing dining opportunities while stationed overseas, don’t overlook your immediate neighborhood, specifically the installation you call home.
Osan Air Base in South Korea, for example, has an exemplary restaurant that serves up steak just the way you like it, with service to make you feel special.
The O House alongside The Lakes at Osan Golf Course is its own hole-in-one.
The 18-hole course and driving range makes for a picturesque setting for a family sit-down or a special occasion. You wouldn’t know it from the outside, but the elegant dining area is very spacious.
Doors at the O House open at 6:30 a.m. sharp. The breakfast menu features eggs, bacon, sausage and steaks. Lunch and dinner provide countless choices, including salads, seafood pasta, porterhouse and tomahawk steaks.
There are also Korean and rice dishes such as beef short ribs and tofu kimchi.
On a recent visit, I ordered the top blade, 10-ounce steak, medium rare, with cheesy mashed potatoes, grilled green beans and grilled corn on the cob.
The steak was tender with a deep, rich flavor. The potatoes were creamy and flavorful, the green beans crispy and the corn smoky and delicious.
All of that cost about $25. I cleaned my plate.
