WARREN, Mich. (Tribune News Service) — Tragedy struck this Michigan family after they lost their home not once, but twice in the span of four years. They just received a big surprise on national TV.
Kelly Clarkson helped surprise this family from Warren in Metro Detroit with an entire home makeover on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
Will Turner is a combat veteran whose entire service records were also lost, including his medals.
Will, Andraya and their three kids were matched with Humble Design, who help people struggling with homelessness. Humble Design worked with Wayfair online furniture store to surprise the family with a complete home redesign.
The living room was the first reveal on the show:
“You said you wanted a room that was welcoming so you could invite over your friends and family to feel comfortable, said Lawrence Zarian of “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” “We’ve got a beautiful couch, end tables, lamps, a big TV.”
Then, the master bedroom, which included family photos and a bookshelf.
“OMG! It’s gorgeous,” a tearful Andraya exclaimed when she saw the bedroom. “I love it because when you’ve been battling homelessness for a while, you really miss the little things. Normalities.”
The dining room includes a new table and chairs and a Christmas tree with presents underneath.
Another big surprise came from the U.S. military.
“We know you lost all of your medals, so we reached out to the military and they supplied us with this flag and all of your medals to celebrate you and your service.”
The kitchen and laundry room were also redone, and that’s just the downstairs. The kids were surprised with new bedrooms upstairs.
Lastly, Wayfair surprised the family with an additional $5,000 to help them get back on their feet.
