1. FC Kaiserslautern hosts Nuremberg on Saturday night for a second division match at a sold-out Fritz Walter Stadium.
The Red Devils need a win over FCN if they want to stay in contention for a relegation playoff spot.
They find themselves in fourth place following last weekend’s 2-0 loss in Magdeburg, tied with the team from eastern Germany on points at 46, with Paderborn, Elversberg, Düsseldorf and Hannover all in striking distance.
Hamburg and Cologne lead the league, sitting in the two direct promotion spots, with 52 and 50 points, respectively.
Nuremberg, coached by former FCK great Miroslav Klose, are in nineth place, five points behind Kaiserslautern. With six games remaining in the season, a win Saturday night could put them back in the running for third place and the chance for promotion.
Simon Simoni will be in the keeper spot again, as Julian Krahl cures his injury. Otherwise FCK coach Markus Anfang can go with his best starting lineup. Kickoff is at 8:30 p.m.
The Red Devils travel to Braunschweig next Friday for a 6:30 p.m. game against Eintracht. The rest of the games in their bid to be promoted are Schalke (H), Karlsruhe(A), Darmstadt (H) and Cologne (A).
