Kaiserslautern blaze burns house, blocks traffic

Update 4:25 p.m. CET: The fire is under control and the road closures are expected to last until the early evening, according to a Westpfalz police.

Police reported Friday afternoon that a house is on fire on Am Eselsbach, in northern Kaiserslautern.

The fire department, rescue services and police are on the scene.

The fire department were still battling the blaze, and the police report no injuries at this time. They have already begun investigating the cause of the fire, according to a Westpfalz police statement.

Dammühle, between Lauterstrasse and the district road to Otterbach, is closed.

People using the road are asked to avoid the area and to keep a rescue lane clear for any emergency services that may follow.

The fire is causing smoke and fumes in the area of Lauterstrasse and autobahn A6 near the Lautertal bridge. Residents should close windows and doors and switch off any ventilation or air conditioning systems.
