Pizza lovers in Kaiserslautern no longer have to feel guilty about leaving their empty takeout box next to an overflowing bin, thanks to a new waste container introduced this month by the city.

The specially designed bin is intended for bulky pizza boxes, which often don’t fit in standard trash cans and are frequently left beside or on top of them, especially in busy areas like the city center.

The container provides extra space and a practical solution to help keep public spaces cleaner, according to city officials.

The first one was installed in the Neue Stadtmitte on Fruchthallstrasse, near the K in Lautern shopping mall.

The move follows a February proposal from the city to introduce a tax on single-use food containers and utensils, including coffee cups, plastic straws and disposable cutlery. Both efforts aim to reduce litter and pollution in Kaiserslautern’s public areas.
