Three people in the Kaiserslautern area have been diagnosed with tuberculosis, the Kaiserslautern Health Department said Tuesday.
A 6-year-old in the city who attends day care was diagnosed at Westpfalz clinic and is being treated at the hospital for mild symptoms, the health department said. A teenager in secondary school was also diagnosed this week, according to health officials.
The department’s investigation of those two cases includes contact tracing, the Kaiserslautern district administration said.
A third tuberculosis case was reported in the district Tuesday, Die Rheinpfalz reported. No additional details about that one were available.
The three cases were diagnosed independently of one each other.
Tuberculosis is a contagious bacterial infection that can cause serious illness. It spreads through droplets in the air, such as when people cough or sneeze. Symptoms can include cough, fever and fatigue.
