The Red Devils are back in action this weekend when they host Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday night at Fritz Walter Stadium.
Kaiserslautern comes off the international break in fourth place with 43 points. Fortuna is in eighth place but only two points behind with eight games remaining in a tight second division race.
If Kaiserslautern wants to keep its chances of promotion alive, this is a game it needs to win.
Keeper Julian Kral is out with a knee injury suffered in the last minute of play in the Red Devils’ 5-3 loss in Paderborn two weeks ago. That means Simon Simoni will get his first start as keeper since becoming a Red Devil earlier in the season.
Otherwise, FCK coach Markus Anfang can go with his regular starting lineup. Kickoff is at 8:30 p.m. at a sold-out Fritz Walter Stadium.
Club officials and the police are urging fans to get to the game early, as there will be a lot of traffic. Numerous rail lines around Kaiserslautern are down for construction, meaning more fans will be driving.
If you are coming by car, the police advise using the park-and-ride options at the Kaiserslautern-Ost autobahn exit and the university. There is overflow parking at the Warmfreibad and on Daennerplatz.
Next weekend, the Red Devils travel to Magdeburg for another tough game. Going into this weekend’s action, the team from eastern Germany is only one point behind FCK.
