A scenic hike with alpacas is just one of the fun opportunities in the KMC this weekend. (Julian Atkins/U.S. Air Force)
Looking to make the most of your weekend in the KMC? Whether you’re in the mood for flower-filled strolls, open-flame tradition or a hike with an alpaca or two, there’s plenty going on March 28–30.
Alpaca Hike: Take a scenic stroll through the Southern Eifel countryside with a fluffy alpaca as your trail buddy. Hikes depart from Plütscheid on Friday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m., lasting about 90 minutes. Great for families, but leave the fur babies at home. Cost is 10 euros per person and 20 euros per alpaca. Call 0173 1822 439 to register.
Flower Festival: Spring blooms take center stage in Freinsheim, where the annual Flower Festival runs Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wander the blossom-lined trails, sample new vintages from local wineries and enjoy riesling spritzers and regional bites. A 12-euro wine pass gets you tastings at all participating vineyards. Entry is free.
Winter Burning 2025: Say farewell to winter at this fiery tradition in Miesau on Saturday. The event begins at 4:30 p.m., with food, drinks and music and culminates in a bonfire ceremony at 7 p.m. to officially welcome spring. Participation is free.
Spring Festival at the Drum Palace: Celebrate the season with rhythm and color in Mannheim on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. This spring festival features high-energy performances by student groups playing African, Brazilian and Cuban beats. There’s also a handmade goods bazaar, free beginner drum workshops and plenty to eat and drink. Admission is free.
Sunday Shopping: Take advantage of a rare Sunday shopping window in Trier. Stores in the city center will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. — just enough time to browse seasonal sales and soak up the historic surroundings.
