New drivers in the KMC can expect a more streamlined vehicle pickup process under a new policy now in effect.

Appointments are no longer required to register, pick up and inspect vehicles shipped to the processing center on Kapaun Air Station via International Auto Logistics, the Defense Department’s official contractor for transporting privately-owned vehicles overseas. In many cases, temporary plates are no longer needed.

If the driver has proof of insurance and all other necessary registration documents and the vehicle passes inspection, the entire process — registration, pickup, inspection and issuance of permanent plates — can be completed in a single day.

Vehicles that fail inspection will be issued temporary plates and can return for re-inspection after any issues are resolved. The vehicle processing center on Kapaun serves customers on a walk-in basis.
