Rheinland-Pfalz will hold its first-ever statewide warning day Mar. 12. (X)

Sirens, loudspeaker announcements and cellular notifications will kick off Rheinland-Pfalz’s first statewide “warning day” Thursday at 10 a.m.

The goal of the warning day is to test emergency alert systems, raise awareness among the population and test processes in the new Civil Protection Situation Center in Koblenz, according to a Feb. 26 release from the German Committee for Disaster Reduction. The all clear will be given around 10:45 a.m.

The state’s warning day aims to complement the annual nationwide warning day in September and is intended to improve the safety of the population, according to the release.
