The Kaiserslautern Military Community’s first unmanned convenience store will open Thursday at 10 a.m. on Sembach Kaserne, according to the Army and Air Force Exchange Service.

The 24/7 store will be in building 211, a dormitory for single soldiers, and offer snacks, coffee and a small selection of sundries and toiletries, AAFES Europe spokesman Master Sgt. Caleb Barrieau said.

Customers select their items and check out at a self-service kiosk using a credit or debit card. Although the spot was chosen with dorm residents in mind, all authorized exchange shoppers can use it, Barrieau said.

Three more unmanned convenience stores are planned in the KMC at an unspecified date, Barrieau said.

One will be in the Ramstein Air Base passenger terminal, another on the south side of the base’s flight line, and the third in the Baumholder health clinic.
