Monday 11:15 a.m. CET Update: At Frankfurt Airport, 1,054 of the day’s 1,116 scheduled takeoffs and landings had been canceled, German news agency dpa reported, citing airport traffic management.

Expect all flights on Monday out of Frankfurt and other major airports in Germany to be canceled, as labor union workers stage a 24-hour strike.

The Ver.di union on Friday called for work stoppages at 11 German airports, according to the aviation operator trade group ADV.

The strike is expected to affect hundreds of thousands of passengers, ADV said.

Ver.di, which represents airport ground staff, is calling for higher wages, more days off and other concessions.

Besides Frankfurt, the strike will affect the following airports: Munich, Stuttgart, Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Hanover, Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin-Brandenburg and Leipzig-Halle.

Residents of the KMC may be able to fly out of Frankfurt Hahn, but the cancellations elsewhere may lead to delays there as well. Luxembourg is another option within two hours of Kaiserslautern.

ADV recommends that all customers check with their airline if they have plans to fly out of or into Germany on Monday.
