The Red Devils will be out for a little revenge Friday evening when they host SV Elversberg at Fritz Walter Stadium.
Elversberg beat Kaiserslautern 1-0 in their first meeting this season and are only three points behind the Betzenberg boys in the standings.
The teams’ stadiums are only about 35 miles apart, but a big rivalry has yet to grow between the clubs, seeing this is only the second year in Bundesliga 2 for the team from the Saarland. Nevertheless, Elversberg has won two of the three games they have played.
1. FC Kaiserslautern goes into the game in second place, tied on points with league leader Hamburger SV. Magdeburg, Paderborn and Cologne are one point behind the duo, with Elversberg in sixth place.
FCK keeper Julian Krahl is probably out with hip problems. If he can’t play, newcomer Simon Simoni will get his first start for the Red Devils.
There are also question marks behind Daisuke Yokota and Jan Gymerah. Yokota is hampered by a foot laceration and Gymerah has back and thigh problems.
This is the fourth time this season that the Red Devils had a chance to jump to the top of the standings. They did not make it on their first three tries, and Elversberg, which has only allowed seven away goals, won’t be making it easy on this attempt.
But Kaiserslautern will have all the fan support they need. The game that kicks off at 6:30 p.m. is sold out.
The Red Devils have two tough games coming up. First, they travel to Paderborn for a March 15 match and then host Düsseldorf on March 29 at Fritz Walter Stadium.
