During a check of two people Monday afternoon outside a supermarket on Merkurstrasse, police officers made a buttery find.

A 42-year-old woman had hidden several wine glasses, jars of honey and packaged organic meat in her handbag, which the duo had previously stolen from the discount store.

The officers were more astonished when they searched the woman’s 37-year-old companion. He had 35 packs of butter hidden under his shirt.

When police looked in the pair’s car, they found 128 packs of butter as well as other stolen goods such as food, toiletries and clothing worth almost 900 euros.

The investigation on suspicion of commercial shoplifting is ongoing, according to the Westpfalz police department.
