1.FC Kaiserslautern travels to Hamburg this weekend for a Friday evening game against HSV that will mean a new leader in the second division table. At least overnight

FCK and the “Rothosen,” or red shorts, as they are called because of color of their home kit, are tied on points with 39, one behind league-leader 1.FC Cologne. Hamburg has the goal difference advantage on the Red Devils, and a tie would put them in first place ahead of the rest of the weekend games.

Should they tie, Cologne lose and Magdeburg win, that would put the fourth-place team on top. That is how tight the second division is at the moment.

1.FC Kaiserslautern and HSV are charter members of the Bundesliga, but both have had ups and downs in the past years. And both teams are hoping for promotion to the top league.

Kaiserslautern comes to the match with a five game undefeated streak. Hamburg has not lost in six games. The last five games against each other, all in the second division, saw each team winning once, with three ties.

Around 6,500 FCK fans will be traveling north to support their team for the match that kicks off at 6:30 p.m.

Kaiserslautern coach Markus Anfang has all his starters on board for the match.

The Red Devils return home to Fritz Walter Stadium for the next two games. First, they host Regensburg at 1 p.m. on March 1, then take on neighboring SV Elversberg at 6:30 p.m. March 7 on the Betzenberg.
