Ordnance disposal experts Tuesday morning defused and removed a World War II explosive found near the tracks at Kaiserslautern’s main train station earlier in the day.
The station and lines into Kaiserslautern were closed after the explosive was found during excavation work at around 2 a.m. Tuesday, Deutsche Bahn said in a statement.
German media reports have alternately referred to the explosive as both a mortar and a grenade. Federal police called the explosive a grenade in an X social media post.
The station has reopened but delays for regional and S-Bahn trains are expected for the rest of the day. Bus services at the station have not been affected.
