A teenager got quite a surprise Wednesday morning in downtown Kaiserslautern.

While waiting for the pedestrian traffic light on the corner of Eisenbahnstrasse and Alleestrasse to turn, he leaned against the metal post of the traffic light. Suddenly the entire pole fell backwards and hit the sidewalk.

The base of the lighting system probably had rusted away, according to city employees who were called to the scene.

The traffic lights at the intersection are currently switched off for repairs.

Luckily, according to the police, no one was injured in the incident.
