Police pursued a suspect in the pedestrian zone in the Kaiserslautern city center late Tuesday afternoon, according to a city police press release.
A supermarket employee said a 25-year-old man passed the checkout area of a store on Fackelstrasse with two drinks without paying. When the employee approached the man, he threw one of the cans away and fled, the release said.
The employee told police, who drove their police car through the pedestrian zone with its blue lights flashing. The police eventually caught the man and found the second drink in his pocket.
A criminal complaint was filed against the man on suspicion of shoplifting.
