1. FC Kaiserslautern beat SpVgg Greuther Fürth in a Friday night away match 4-2.
As in their last game, the Red Devils got off to a bad start, when Fürth scored the 1-0 in the sixth minute of play after a shot ricocheted off Erik Wekesser and into the FCK goal.
Marlor Ritter evened the score in the 28th minute, scoring on a right-footer off a pass from Filip Kaloc.
Following the intermission FCK striker Ragnar Ache, coming off an injury, replaced Ritter after he was fouled by a Fürth player.
But it was another offensive player that put the Red Devils in the lead in the 52nd minute. Daisuke Yokota stole the ball from a Fürth defender and scored from about six yards out.
Fürth striker Branimir Hrgota tied the game 2-2 in the 68th minute with a shot past FCK keeper Julian Krahl from about 22 yards out.
Five minutes later the Red Devils went back on top when Kaloc took a pass from Daniel Hanslik and converted from the top of the box.
The last ten minutes of play saw a flurry of cards, with Fürth’s Phillip Müller seeing the red card from referee Felix Prigan after fouling Ache from behind in the 84th minute.
In the scrum following the attack, Prigan sent Kaiserslautern’s Jan Gyamerah off the field, red-carded after receiving his second yellow card.
When the sides got back to playing soccer, Ache scored his 10th goal of the season in the fourth minute of stoppage time, to give the Red Devils the 4-2 win.
The victory moved Kaiserslautern up to second place in the second division standings with 32 points, tied with league leader Magdeburg. But both teams can be overtaken in the table depending on the results of the rest of the weekend games.
The Red Devils are back home at Fritz Walter Stadium next Sunday with a 1:30 p.m. match against Preussen Münster.
