Don’t let the clouds and cold weather get you down when there’s plenty of fun to be had on and off base in the KMC. Here are a few things going on this weekend.

Ice skating: The Mr. F Eiswelt returns to Kaiserslautern on Friday, bringing outdoor winter fun to the Messeplatz at the Kaiserslautern exhibition center. A series of free concerts events will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and run through the first week of March. Click here for a full schedule of events, opening hours and ice skating prices.

Speed Friending: Who doesn’t need more friends? Head over to the Ramstein Community Center on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. to expand your social circle. The free event for guests 18 and older offers a unique opportunity to meet new people and connect with the community in a relaxed, friendly environment.

Freinsheim Red Wine Walk: The town of Freinsheim, about 40 minutes east of Kaiserslautern by car, hosts it’s annual Red Wine Walk from Friday to Sunday. The 4.3 mile trail through the town’s vineyards has 14 resting points where hikers can sample regional red wines and other treats. The trail booths are open from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday and 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Ramstein Outdoor Recreation is also offering a guided tour on Saturday.

Freezing 5K: Head over to the Southside Fitness Center on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. for a fun run. The free event is open to runners of all levels and is family-, stroller- and pet-friendly. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers. Registration is required, and slots are filling up fast. Click here to reserve your spot.

Box Car Movie Night: Join the Ramstein Youth Center for a night of free family fun and creativity featuring “Despicable Me 4”. Families can design their own cardboard box car and enjoy the movie “drive-in” style with provided supplies. The USO will also be on site serving up tasty treats. Prizes are up for grabs for the top 3 box cars. There’s no registration, but seating is limited on a first come, first served basis, with the event running from 4 to 8 p.m.
