Man arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after crash near Opel Circle

A 21-year-old man left a trail of destruction at Opel Circle in Kaiserslautern, city police said in a press release. He was speeding and lost control over his Nissan Altima in the traffic circle driving toward Merkurstrasse, where many shops and businesses are located. “He crossed the B270 feeder road, collided with two traffic lights and a traffic sign and broke through the fence of the supermarket,” police said. A crash barrier in the supermarket parking lot stopped the car. The man fled the scene of the accident. The police were able to track the man down at his hotel. A breath alcohol test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.193 percent. The man was taken to the police station. He is now under investigation on suspicion of endangering road traffic and drunken driving.
