Dog found in parking lot near Kaiserslautern was given alcohol or drugs, police say

Police are investigating after a dog was found abandoned and under the influence of alcohol or drugs Thursday afternoon in a parking lot near Krickenbach, about 12 miles south of downtown Kaiserslautern.

The dog, tied to a construction site sign in the Schweinstal passenger parking lot on the K59, was discovered by a concerned caller who contacted authorities. Emergency services freed the animal and contacted a local animal rescue organization.

A veterinarian later determined the dog had been given alcohol or drugs. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, citing a violation of the Animal Welfare Act.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area on Dec. 26, to contact them at 0631-369-2620.
