1. FC Kaiserslautern lost its last game of the year falling at home to 1. FC Cologne 1-0.

A victory against “Ef-Zeh,” as the club from the Rhine River city is known, would have propelled the Red Devils to the top of the second division standings.

Instead, the road win put Cologne in the top spot over the winter break.

In an evenly played game, Cologne got the win on a header by Dejan Ljubicic in the 33rd minute.

FCK had the advantage in ball possession at a sold-out Fritz Walter Stadium but couldn’t get the ball past Cologne keeper Marvin Schwäbe, who stopped a number of Kaiserslautern shots.

The loss dropped Kaiserslautern to ninth place with 26 points, but only five points behind league-leader Cologne in a very tight Bundesliga 2, that saw three different teams on top of the standings over the three days of weekend play.

The Red Devils end the winter break on Jan. 22, 2025, when they host SSV Ulm at Fritz Walter Stadium.
