4 p.m. update: The left lane is blocked off with barricades before approaching the Kaiserslautern-Einsiedlerhof exit and the speed limit is reduced to 80 kph, but traffic is moving.

The autobahn A6 is closed heading west between Kaiserslautern-West and Kaiserslautern-Einsiedlerhof following an accident involving two tractor-trailers, Westpfalz Police said.

As of 10:10 a.m., westbound traffic was backed up several miles, not far from the Kaiserslautern Centrum junction.

Police say the autobahn will be closed until around noon while the trucks’ loads are transferred to other vehicles and the crash site is cleaned up. Motorists heading towards Saarbrücken may reenter the autobahn at the Einsiedlerhof or Landstuhl junctions. Eastbound traffic has been relatively unaffected.

Traffic was also relatively heavy this morning on alternate roads heading west past Pulaski Barracks toward Kindsbach.
