With a seemingly endless number of nearby German Christmas markets to visit and tree lighting ceremonies across KMC installations, there’s no shortage of fun to be had this weekend. Here’s a look at some events in the area.
“Beauty and the Beast Jr.” (Dec. 6-8 and 13-15): KMC Onstage presents a “tale as old as time” with multiple showings of its youth production of “Beauty and the Beast” at the Kaiserslautern Community Activity Center on Daenner Kaserne. Showtimes are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Click here for more showtime and ticket information.
Cassadee Pope at Rudolph the Red Nosed Herc (Dec. 6): Pop-punk singer, Grammy-nominated country artist, and winner of season 3 of “The Voice”, Cassadee Pope will put on a special live performance, courtesy of Armed Forces Entertainment at the Rudolph the Red Nosed Herc Christmas celebration at hangar 3 on Ramstein Air Base. The free show starts at 7 p.m.
“Lord of the Rings” trilogy on the big screen (Dec. 6-8): Journey to Middle Earth with the KMCC Exchange ReelTime Theater during its special showings of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. The theatrical-release versions (sorry extended cut enthusiasts) will play in order Friday to Sunday with each movie starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the box office starting at 11 a.m. the day of each showing. Doors open 30 minutes to show time.
Ramstein Christmas city tour (Dec. 7): Explore the town center and learn about Ramstein’s historical development from farming village to modern, international city during an English tour sponsored by “Welcome to Rheinland-Pfalz”. This family-friendly event is free of charge and includes a free snack at the end of the tour near the Ramstein Christmas market. The tour stars at 3 p.m. and lasts about two hours. Register until Dec. 6 by emailing the information center at kmcc@infocenter-ramstein.de.
Homemade craft market (Dec. 7-8): If you’re on the hunt for one-of-a-kind gifts, head over to the Ramstein Community Center’s homemade craft market to discover unique, handcrafted treasures from local artisans. The market is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
