Red Devils take on rival Karlsruhe at home on Saturday

Kaiserslautern plays at home Saturday against longtime rival Karlsruhe (1. FC Kaiserslautern)

1. FC Kaiserslautern is back on the Betzenberg on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match against long-time rival Karlsruher FC.

The Red Devils come into the game sitting in third place with 23 points after going undefeated in their last six games.

KSC is only two places behind them, but also with 23 points, showing just how tight the second division table is going into the 15th week of the season. While Paderborn is four points up on the competition, only three points separate second place from 11th.

While FCK’s place in the standings is good news, the bad news is the team’s top striker Ragnar Ache will probably be out until the winter break after suffering a calf injury in last week’s 3-0 win against Schalke.

Expect Fritz Walter Stadium to be sold out Saturday in the rivalry that goes back decades. In the 65 games against each other, the Red Devils won 23, lost 16 and 26 times the games ended in a tie.

In their last meeting on the Betzenberg in February, Karlsruhe won 4-0.

Next week FCK travels to Darmstadt before ending the first half of the season at Fritz Walter Stadium in another big match on Dec. 22, against Cologne.
